Funny National October Days: Fun Facts to Help You & Your Friends at Your Next Fall Party
Yes, there are other National October Days that might be more common or meaningful, but these are more on the quirky and fun side.
Shall we?
Pumpkin Seed Day – 1st Wednesday in October
Besides being a natural source of magnesium, which can support heart health and help lower blood pressure, the health benefits of pumpkin seeds are vast.
Bone health, iron, anti-inflammatory, better sleep, zinc, blood sugar, potassium, fiber, and immunity are all attributed to these autumn beauties.
Bonus Tip: bake them at 300° for 30–40 minutes to increase their fiber content!
Propane Day – Oct. 7
Sometimes propane gets a bad rap, but it costs less than electricity, is portable, and burns cleaner. All environmental pluses.
And we lived off of it in Baja for almost 12 years.
Most of my propane memories are either (carbon) neutral or negative, but the funny ones revolve around the dozens of 18-year-old students who lived with us on our property.
We told them to always check the dials on their tanks and let us know when they got below approximately 25% so we could call the propane guy. And no, he doesn’t deliver on Sundays, so plan ahead.
Like clockwork, at least one house ran out every year and a student, or three, always came knocking, dumbfounded why they couldn’t get the hot water in their shower to work.
It’s not an easy thing to get used to (we know) after having instant hot water your whole life, but it still made us laugh every year. And yes, it still amazes me how much we take for granted on this side of the border.
So here’s to all my friends living in rural areas (and still in MX) and having to remember to call the propane truck. I see you!
Chocolate Covered Pretzel Day – Oct. 7
This is one of the grossest food pictures I’ve ever seen, but it’s also one of the funniest. Can you imagine bringing this to a party at your office?
I dare you.
Fact: Williams Sonoma charges $29.95 for 12 chocolate-dipped pretzels. I’m sure they’re fantastical, but yes… you can make them yourself wayyy cheaper.
Consignment Day – 1st Monday in October
If you’ve never been to a high-end consignment store, may I suggest you’re missing out? Even if you’re not the thrifting type, finding the best of the best all in one spot is fantastic.
And if you’re a SoCal local, come visit my friend’s new consignment boutique! Her name is Rose, her store is The Collection Temecula, and it’s ridiculously adorable. From normal-priced clothing and candles to legit designer handbags and bougie sunglasses, the collection is making a splash in Old Town Temecula!

Taco Day – 1st Monday in October
It’s always been October first, but in 2024, this holiday moved to the first Tuesday in October. Which means National Taco Day will always land on Taco Tuesday! Brilliant.
P.S. Tacos are better than pumpkin spice lattes.
There—I said it. Fight me.
National Hero Day – Oct. 8
I don’t think it’s any secret that our firemen, nurses, doctors, EMTs, law enforcement, and military men and women are the true heroes of our country.
Thank one today with a text, phone call, or note.
Walk to a Park Day – Oct. 10
Besides being free, walking has a ridiculously long list of health benefits including reducing your risk of stroke and heart disease. Yes, even if you consider yourself young.
Due to some skeletal issues, I’ve been told I should be walking about an hour a day. So I’m walking with friends, listening to more podcasts, learning to embrace the extra time I’m choosing to invest in my health, and slowing down to enjoy the benefits of living near a park.
Has it been a while since you’ve spent time outside? Lace up your shoes and get ready to lighten your mood, increase your creativity, and reduce your stress with a walk. You’re worth it!
Esthetician Day – Oct. 15
Wanna make an esthetician’s skin crawl? Tell them you wash your face with plain bar soap.
Really though, do you take care of your face? I don’t care if you think it takes too long, or if you’re a dude with a beard—you can still care for your epidermis. And a fantastic esthetician can be your best friend when it comes to helping you glow.
My sister-in-law, Heidi, is a master esthetician with 24 years of facials and waxing under her belt, and an impressive resume with high-end bougie spas. So if you’re ever in the Paso Robles area (or you know someone who lives there), let me know and I’ll put you in contact with her. She’ll make you feel like a pampered prince or princess!

Snow Blower Maintenance – Oct. 15-21
You know I’ve only ever lived in Cali and Mexi, right? Warm weather and I are friends. I do not claim to know the first thing about snow blowers, but I have multiple friends and family members in the northern part of the country who get to deal with such things every winter.
Don’t forget to do whatever it is you need to do to keep your snow blower blowing snow, amigos!
Alllrighty then… that’s all I have to say about that.
Youth Confidence Day – Oct. 20
How many young people do you think feel confident daily? Probably not many. Here are a few ways you can help increase their confidence:
- Text them a compliment
- Ask how you can pray for them
- Call them after they win a game, competition, prize, etc.
- Send them an encouraging quote
- Ask them about something they’re interested in
- Tell them you’re praying for them
The List
Wanna see all the rest of the National October Days for yourself? Say no. Maybe you should be getting back to work. Or pulling weeds. Or calling a friend. Or whitening your teeth. Or power-washing your fence. Or reading a book.
Okay, fine. If you really want to see the list you can look up National Day Calendar. But I’m telling you—I already picked out most of the good ones. I wouldn’t bother taking time to learn about Breadstick Day, but that’s your prerogative.

Great collection! My oldest son was born in October and he will be 19 this year on the 12th. That’s a special day for sure!
